A very long time! At least it felt that way, because I hate keeping secrets.
My editor and I started discussing possible scenes in November, I got the first concept proof several weeks later and we started the process of going back and forth on tweaks and changes. And I got the final cover in early January and have not stopped staring at it since.
I'm lucky that my publisher lets me be so involved in the process (not all do--in fact most don't.) But it does also make it challenging knowing so many details about the cover--and having everyone ask me about it constantly--and not being able to say anything.

Lodestar really was great, even if I now have to wait a year cause of that cliffhanger. I had to resist throwing my book across the room. Here's the question: Why are all the goblin bodyguards assigned to an elf a different genders? Thanks! (but no thanks grr)
