Anyone else have trouble finishing this book & resort to skimming? I just found it way too long... too many characters & long boring backstories!

Adrianna Kenworthy No, I found it to be a page turner! The subject was so different than anything I have read and I loved all the different character's stories. I am going to recommend for my book group as I think there is much to discuss.
Susan Oh my goodness, I enjoyed every page. She's one of those writers where I enjoy every minute of the journey because I love her writing and "voice", and so I don't even care what actually happens. The book could go on and on and I'd still be happy! One of those books where you are sorry it ended. But couldn't put it down and so finished it in 2 days.
Jen Yes!! I did the same - started to skim and then skipped entire parts to get to the lackluster ending. Very disappointing.
Liz I wrote the characters and their predictions down, so that made it easier to enjoy the book
Teresa Jorgensen Nope. It was good-4 stars for me. Have I read books I liked more? yes. But oh my gosh I’ve read way worse. not every book is for every reader.
Martha Not at all, I adored this book.
Ann J I definitely struggled to get this finished. The size was intimidating. But I’ve read much longer books and whole series and not had this problem. So there was definitely something wrong. I would start a chapter and think, who is Mum (which one?) and who is David? Not kidding. It would take a minute and then I would be, oh okay. I struggled recently with The God Of The Woods as well. But that at least was more of a pleasure/writing wise to read. This began to feel a bit gimmicky. The saving grace was Cherry’s back story. This may have needed some serious editing to cut it down more. I think what kept me going was it was a pretty buzzy book and I wanted to see what all the hype was about. But just know, you were not alone in your struggle. I felt a bit jipped. Reading time is precious. I did not skim, but kinda regret the time spent on this one.

arik halperin I never struggle with a book, what’s the point?. I tried to listen to it but after 4 hours I gave up. Found it tedious and boring.
MsMaddyMax Yes. So tedious, not a word I'd ever have associated with Liane Moriarty. And while the end was nice, it certainly wasn't a payoff for enduring the boredom.
Ameya I agree. Totally boring and tedious when no payoff at the end for me.
Kelly Loved this one. I had the audio and eBook so I could switch and reread certain parts to remember the characters. I felt that she perfectly captured many of the characters grief and anxiety issues. Not to mention the many idiosyncrasies dealing with friendships and marriages. So insightful that I'm still thinking about their lives a week later.
Sue S Exactly, I skimmed the end as it was incredibly boring.
I also had to keep a "character list" to keep the predicted deaths straight!
Paula Yes! I kept wanting it to get better.
K I listened to it as an audio book (at 2.0x) and absolutely loved it! Sorry you didn’t enjoy it.
