Marie Brennan No single person; more a type. (People have guessed Isabella Bird, but I actually didn't know about her until after I'd named my Isabella.) Lady Mary Wortley Montagu, Gertrude Bell, Mary Kingsley, Mary Anning, etc. -- pioneering female explorers and scholars.

And, of course, men like Darwin. :-)
