I didn't understand why Lily had to leave Matthew so harshly. She made the decision immediately after finding out about her mother and the Maiers', when she starts to tell him on the phone and then doesn't. It seems like she never gave him a chance....?

Lily owed him every chance to save what they had together instead of acting irrationally,..it didn't make sense, plus with the family's wealth & power, she never would have gotten away with it.
