Hi Carol. I'm curious... Do you have a 'daily' routine when you write? Do you have some sort of trinket, icon, mascot that you carry around when you write?

Carol Goodman I like to write in the morning which is when my brain works best. I write in longhand in lined composition books and then type up my drafts on my laptop. I have all sorts of tokens on my desk--an iron bear, a fossilized seashell, a ceramic rhino. I always carry my notebook with me even if I don't think I'll be writing because it makes me feel secure. I'm a big fan of your early "academic" & folklore work and noticed the heavy use of water imagery in many of your titles (Seduction of Water, Lake of Dead Languages, Drowning Tree, Arcadia Falls, and now River Road). Is there a story behind those choices? Is there a larger theme to these novels that their watery titles suggest?
