Valerie
Valerie asked Rose Rosetree:

Dear Rose, I’m currently reading (and loving) the 2nd edition of “Bigger Than All the Night Sky.” A question occurred to me while reading about your Planning Meeting before birth where you were reminded that “illusions on earth are necessary.” Here is my question: “Why are illusions on earth necessary and how do they help us evolve spiritually?” Thank you, Valerie

Rose Rosetree Valerie, thanks for asking this question. My answer is going to be fun for you, I suspect. Since, no matter what you’re expecting by way of an answer, this won’t be it. Not that, but maybe something better.

FIRST SOME CONTEXT

You know, Valerie, supplying context would be helpful. Since every Goodreader who finds your “Ask the Author” question hasn’t necessarily read Bigger Than All the Night Sky, not yet.

This memoir tells the story of my life up to age 23. Basically, it’s the story of a person who would become a spiritual teacher – by now I’ve been at that for 55 years and counting.

Even if readers aren’t in that sort of occupation, a whole lot of readers are like me in that they keep on seeking God every way they can. Like them, my stumbling, fumbling progress alternates with moments when, to use the phrase coined by C.S. Lewis, I am Surprised by Joy.

Unlike the great C.S. Lewis, most of whose popular books I’ve read and loved, my writing is spiritual but not religious. It’s pretty unusual to find a memoir like that, spiritual but NOT religious.

In BIGGER (yes, that’s how I’ll refer to the book for short), Chapters 4-7 are about a near-death experience I had, at age five, when my tonsils were taken out.

Wham! I was back in Heaven. First I spoke with God, and established that God wasn’t really angry at me – as I had feared. Then I time-traveled back to my Planning Meeting before birth. Among other things, I learned about The Awakening Project. Clearly, I signed up for that.

BTW I hope there will be some “Ask the Author” questions about The Awakening Project, since many readers of BIGGER are quite sure they’re part of that project too. Yet have other authors written about that yet? Nope.

Interestingly, you didn’t choose to ask about The Awakening Project. Instead, you asked about illusions. And so I’ll respond.

Just so all of us can be on the same page, as it were, here comes the reference to Illusions from BIGGER. In context! Quoted for all of you from Page 60.

Adapted From “Bigger Than All The Night Sky”

The author is at her Planning Meeting for her lifetime as Rose. She’s talking with an Ascended Master, Merlin. (Yes, the same sage person named in the legends about King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.)

The Author: You don’t mean that I will actually lose my connection to spiritual light, do you?

Merlin: Never. That cannot be. However, you will feel as if all that light has been lost.
And remember how Earth’s illusions include being stuck in a heavy reality?

Often you have chosen lifetimes as a spiritual teacher; typically this has come at the expense of enjoying the human part of Earth School, simple pleasures like eating and playing and aimlessly spending time with others.

Well, that’s the best life will offer you. No kidding, the best. For years. Except for small flashes of talent.

Do not underestimate this challenge: eating and playing, aimlessly, while hanging out with people who are shut off from their spiritual light.

The Author: That’s it? That’s all you’ve got?

Practically giggling, I say, “So I’m gonna waste a little time by playing? Seems easy enough.”
[My radiating light sends out marigold pulsations of anticipation.]

Here's the Concluding Quote From This Sequence

Merlin’s light brightens, if possible.

Yes, this lifetime could be very good for you, once you get over the spiritual blackout.

OF COURSE, INCARNATING ON EARTH INVOLVES ILLUSIONS

So, Valerie, you chose the most popular word used by spiritual seekers and teachers of Traditional Enlightenment. Crazy-popular!

Illusions! Just because, from the perspective of living in a Heaven, everything about a human incarnation on Earth hinges on illusions.

That is, compared to life in a Heaven, Earth life is so…. Basic. So fraught with fear and pain and loneliness, etc.

YOUR QUESTION, UNDERSTANDABLY, TAKES THAT POPULAR PERSPECTIVE

Only – and I respond to this with my great respect for you, Valerie – So what? Who cares?

Look. There are countless spiritual teachers, now and throughout the past, who make a big deal of this illusion business.

Hello! You and I and the rest of humanity are no longer living in the Age of Faith. Ever since the Shift, on Dec. 21, 2012, what changed? All of us humans are living in the Age of Awakening.

As the founder of Energy Spirituality®, I wound up adding the job of serving as an Enlightenment Teacher… for the Age of Awakening. So many of the articles at my blog, and published here on Goodreads too, are about helping people to understand what’s useful NOW. Not back then, in the gone-forever Age of Faith.

If you’re curious to learn more about contemporary teaching about Spiritual Enlightenment, I recommend you google “Age of Awakening Enlightenment Vs. Trad Enlightenment.” Then read that article and the hundreds of comments that have been developing there.

THEN WAS THEN, NOW IS NOW

Back in the Age of Faith, it was deemed so important to point out illusions.

Now, in my opinion, it is far more important to point out what it means to use your full potential in life. Yes, helping people to live fully, both spiritually and emotionally, and HUMANLY.

So… rather than continue to pay attention to spiritual illusions, might I suggest? Valerie and other Goodreaders, start paying attention to this idea instead:

USE YOUR EVERYDAY-AMAZING POTENTIAL

That, in fact, is the name of a new series of books I’m publishing. BIGGER is Book 1 in that series.

What does that even mean, your EVERYDAY-AMAZING potential in life? That means doing everyday things, in an everyday way, but along with big spiritual joy. Along with a stronger inner experience of God than before moving into Spiritual Enlightenment.

Doing this is so much more fun than “eating and playing, aimlessly, while hanging out with people who are shut off from their spiritual light.”

So, thanks for asking about all this, Valerie. Here’s to your living with your full potential for an EVERYDAY-AMAZING experience of life!
