Mirjam Basically Red has been lying about everything concerning her life up until her adoption. She spends 80% of the book saying she is the child of Luna and a fortune teller but that is a lie. That child did indeed die with the fortune teller the day of her birth. She is really the daughter of the oldest brother and mrs freemantle, antrobus' maid.
