Goodreads asked Michael Green:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Michael Green Just realise that it is extremely difficult to find a publisher. I was lucky that both Random House in NZ and Lubbe in Germany picked up my books. But I had many rejections before I found a publisher, and in deed I had already self published before either publisher picked up Blood Line.

If you do self publish, use a professional Assessor and Editor.

I had an excellent publisher at Random House - Harriet Allan, who was brilliant and who, together with her team, improved my book considerably. But I found that RH marketing was lacking. They, like all publishers seem to concentrate their funds and efforts on the best selling, known authors.

Thank God for e-books. I have now regained control of all my novels and am marketing my books through Amazon Kindle. I sold more e-books in the first month than Random House had sold in the previous 4 years - and whilst my selling price is considerably lower than RH's price (which may well account for the increased sales), the return from each book is greater for me.
