Jacob Gould
Jacob Gould asked David Moody:

In Strangers the family are from the Midlands however they say/spell Mum, in the Black Country we say and spell it Mom. I was just wondering if you knew about this difference? Also its not often you get a book that mentions Merry Hill; made it that bit more relatable.

David Moody Hi Jack. I'm from the Midlands too, and I've always been taught to write Mum. I asked around a few friends (one of whom is the most Black Country person I know) and there was a pretty even split between Mum and Mom. It's a no-win situation... I used 'Mom' in an earlier novel and was criticised for trying to sound American!

I really enjoy working local landmarks into my novels. As you say, it makes them more relatable. In 'Trust', although it's set in a fictional coastal village, they manage to fit in a visit to the Bull Ring. Some of my other books are set in genuine Birmingham locations, but with the names changed. Autumn: The City was based in and around Birmingham City Centre.

Thanks again for your question and for reading Strangers.
