Tyrion is generally not that hot-headed, yes, but this is a special circumstance. Tywin claimed that the the love of Tyrion's life was a whore and never actually loved him, then had her gang-raped and forced Tyrion to rape her as well. Then Tyrion finds out that Tysha really DID love him. Then Tywin has the gall to mock Tyrion about all this while being held at gunpoint. Not to mention the fact that Tywin treated Tyrion like total garbage his whole life in general. Who would NOT shoot in that situation?
