Spoiler question. Saint allegedly has her baby and gives him up for adoption during "the year she took off." I went back thru the novel and could not find any reference to a year off. Did anyone else pinpoint that reference? Imo it seems an absurd plot contrivance, not in character.

Also, if Saint went to a clinic to have an abortion, then it was at a time that abortions were legal. Why then was the Doctor performing them in an underground type of shack? (less)

Linda C They were only legalized in 1973. In Bible Belt Missouri, it's not a stretch to think that the legal clinics could only be found in St Louis or Kansas ...more
