J.R. Barker
J.R. Barker asked Catherine Ryan Hyde:

I have to admit I saw the film first, I was single digits young at the time, but when I learned it was a book I was overjoyed. I've always hoped, perhaps naively, that the concept would catch on and spread round the world. Did you have the same hope when you were writing it? I also wonder what you thought of the film, did you have any say as to what was done with it, and are you pleased with how it turned out?

Catherine Ryan Hyde I don't think it's naive. I think the idea is catching on, but in a real-life--rather than fictional--way. More subtle. I actually did not have lofty dreams of what would happen in real life. The reaction has far exceeded my expectations. I had no input in the movie at all, and had mixed feelings about the result. But I'm glad they made one.
