Annaliese Layaw
Annaliese Layaw asked Raena Rood:

Hi, Raena! I recently read Reverence, and I absolutely devoured it! It was so good! I've recently indie-published my debut novel, and I'm currently working on creating a more productive writing routine. And I was wondering what your writing routine looks like?

Raena Rood Hi Annaliese! First of all, I love your name! Second, I checked out your book on Goodreads and it sounds really interesting (and right up my alley)! I'm adding it to my list. As for my writing routine... I primarily write in the early mornings since I also have a full-time job. Mornings are also when my writing tends to be the best. Evenings are better for editing. I try to get 1,000 words done per day, which is nothing for some writers, but I'm a very slow writer. If I get 1,000 words written, it's a good day. I use Scrivener to organize my projects. As for structuring the books, I've become obsessed with the screenwriting book, Save the Cat, and I try to follow that general plot structure in my own writing. My best advice would be to write every day, even when you don't feel like it, and even if it's only for 15 minutes. Pick the time of day when you do the best writing and try to make that your time to write without distractions. Aim for a certain word count (such as 1,000 words) but don't beat yourself up if you don't hit that number every day. Just try to get those 15 minutes in... because it will usually end up being a lot more than 15 minutes. Good luck in all you do! Thank you so much for reading Reverence! --Raena
