Ed asked Gideon Devin Rex:

What inspired the central themes in your work, and how do they reflect your personal beliefs or experiences?

Gideon Devin Rex Hi Ed, great question. For most of my life, especially when I was very young, I felt more like an outside observer of life rather than an active participant. That has many drawbacks, but an advantage is that I seemed to have a better grasp of the "grand scheme of things" than my peers. That is reflected in the themes of my work because I don't focus so much on making every character behave perfectly in a series of events to reach an outcome. Rather, I can allow things to develop in a less manufactured way and allow readers more room to consider the in-between of key events for themselves. I don't write with a map or a predetermined set of instructions. That is a reflection of how I live- mostly going with the flow toward an inevitable end, but hopefully a memorable one.
