When you write side characters, how much do you know about them? Do you build near life stories in your head or on paper, or do you mostly stick to the situations they are in in the book or somewhere in between?

Robin Stevens It really depends! Some side characters I know loads about, some much less. I do like building a basic background for them - where they're from, who their parents were, whether they had siblings etc, even if that isn't ever shown in the book.
