I'm halfway through Whistle and loving it. So what I needed after a hard week--absorbing and imaginative. Thank you. I'm sensing strong echoes of Needful Things (mentioned in your book) and Something Wicked This Way Comes. Did these books influence you during the writing?

Thanks for the kind words. I must have read Something Wicked ... at some point, but don't remember it. Needful Things was in the back of my mind when I started Whistle, so I reread it to make sure the similarities were limited. But it's a very fun book.

New authors want to get noticed. They need to build a following. One way is to go to book festivals, shows or conferences in many different cities or towns. These generally occur annually. I know you go to some. What would you consider as the can't miss book or author gathering? And is it open to new authors? Need to register? Pay $ up front etc.
