How long before you started writing the story of this 80 year old case were you doing research on it?

I found the first spark in a YouTube video in mid to late 2021. It festered in my mind as I was working on another novel before I just had to switch gears. I started serious research in February '22 and then outlining began in March '22. I kept researching as I outlined and did limited research once I started draft 1 in December '22. So, a year, give or take.
