Goodreads asked Ella James:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Ella James 1. Make sure I'm clear-headed emotionally - as in, there are no "life" disturbances that are distracting me, such as a sick child or a stressful move, etc.

2. Make sure the plot is right. Often when I'm going in the wrong direction a scene that would otherwise be easy just won't come. There's no way around this. Just keep tinkering with the plot, dis- and re-assemble it until you get it right. Type it out, talk it out with a friend, read another author's book and sleep on it.

3. Don't be afraid! Tell yourself the worst thing that can happen if you write something crappy is you don't show anyone. Be brave enough to see where the project takes you.
