Just finished Lady Tan. Can't even pretend to understand the research required. I have read all your books and love them along with Brooks, Quindlen and Proulx. I have lived for a year on Taiwan in the '60's and have traveled twice to the mainland, so I know how authentic your writing is. I can taste it, see it, hear it, smell it. I can only aspire to do the same with my poetry. Coming to LA any time soon?

Hello Ms See, I have just finished reading your two books, "Shanghai Girls" and "Dreams of Joy" and enjoyed both tremendously. They depict the changes that occurred in China from the pre-to post-revolution beautifully. I have always been interested in China having been close to Pearl Buck who was the first American writer to write about that country. I'd love to know what you think of her books? Eva F.

Hello Ma'am, I've just finished 'The island of sea women' and totally loved it. Characters felt so real! However, there is one question. Please help me get it's answer- Why did Mi-Ja told Young Sook that she could save only one of her children? Why does she ask her to decide on one child instead of denying to take any of them with her?
