How do you come up with new & exciting storylines?

Tami Hoag This is by far the most frequently asked question for any writer. As a crime writer, I study a lot of actual cases, and sometimes a particular type of crime will spark an idea for me, and I'll start with the What Ifs. What if the victim was (fill in the blank) What if the motive was (fill in the blank) "Why" is my strongest catalyst. Why did this happen to this person? Why would someone feel compelled to commit this crime? Writing the book is the process of trying to answer those questions.
