I thought Gone Girl was too slow, especially in the first half, but I liked the grittiness. The Girl on the Train was fast-paced and creepier (in a good way, if you ask me). It took me a week to read Gone Girl and I read The Girl on the Train in a single sitting.

Similarities with Gone Girl: immoral/unconventional female narrators, psychological thriller, unreliable narrators, dark and gritty.

Differences: Faster-paced, more traditional mystery, more gripping (in my opinion), a very different kind of ending.(less)
