I remember the narrator saying early in the book, that one student went outside and just got locked out and despite her pleas was never allowed back in. In the end she just had to wander off somewhere, and nobody knew what happened to her. It's like prisoners who only know 4 walls for a long time become afraid of the outside world. (less)
