Goodreads asked Michael Richards:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Michael Richards The actual idea for writing a book in the first place was a goal I've had since high school, and I have always loved writing stories. One of my favorite genres is mystery/thriller; not so much for the murder aspect of most stories--something I don't like too much--but instead for the thrill of solving a mystery. I especially love stories that have a surprise around every corner, which is something I've tried to do with "Dead Wind Hollow". The idea for using a dwarf as my main character comes from the fact that, since I'm extremely tall, I've always wanted to be short. I've been fascinated by those who are very short, and in my research for the book, I found almost no stories with a dwarf as a main character, especially one where they are portrayed as serious people, rather than as silly or evil. I wanted to show that people with dwarfism are still people, and are able to contribute for the good of society like anyone else.
