He110Ne0 asked E.L. Tettensor:

I always picture the eyes of a Tiger when I read your descriptions of the Adali's golden eyes. That wisdom & feeling that there is a secret just outside your understanding - but also that it's totally sizing you up. Did you have big cats in mind when you wrote them?

E.L. Tettensor Thanks for your question.

I had cats in mind when I described the Darkwalker's eyes, but not for the Adali. For them, I picture the eyes of a Pashtun, a people often having golden or green eyes (e.g. famous National Geographic photo of the young Afghan girl). I imagine the overall appearance of the Adali being similar to some of the peoples of the Horn of Africa (e.g. Iman). Coincidentally, one such ethnic group is the Tigre, which is also the French word for tiger.

The word "Adali" comes from the Kingdom of Adal, a medieval state that once occupied the Horn of Africa.

Incidentally, Pashtun eyes being somewhat of a fascination for me ever since spending time in Pakistan, they also feature in the morphology of the Harrami, a people who play a large role in The Bloodforged (forthcoming).
