So somehow I missed it. I get that the Shepard king wanted the cards as a less dangerous way for his people to use magic and save them from degeneration. So with this in mind, was it ever revealed what the king’s degeneration was? The book says he was born with the fever and always had magic. He is gifted the sword by the spirit. But I can’t recall what his price or degeneration was for being born with his magic.
