Paperback Mo asked this question about Shift (Silo #2):
What's "The Crow" all about? Where does she come from? Why does she live so long? Did I miss a chapter on her or something?

SPOILER (maybe)
This detail, like most of what's going on, was never spelled out explicitly.

Here's what we do know: there is a drug that makes everyone forget the details of the "ancient" world, as well as anything their mind finds painful or too stressful.
Also, there is some type of nano-technology available that can repair the human body at the cellular level.

We also know that Donald becomes more and more resistant to that mind-wipe drug, for reasons revealed in the story.

With all that in mind, I assume that the Crow had the healing procedure before going in to silo 18. She somehow got past whatever safeguards and screening are in place. For some reason, she is immune to the mind-wipe drug, and it looks like she would just keep on living indefinitely.
The only thing that makes sense is that she has, or had, some of the "good" nano bots repairing her cells.(less)
