I've always loved the world of Tolkien so I would probably go there if I had a choice. The world of Tolkien always had a rich history to it and that makes it stand out from a lot of other fantasy worlds, which often only deal with something that happened in the past 100 years.
It's a style I found that I enjoyed when I went to write my Drake Thomas series. I always found myself wondering, what happens here? What happened in the past? And more importantly, how did the past affect the character? Since they lived in the same world, it should be important.
