Dustin asked Stuart Gibbs:

Hi Mr. Gibbs, I was wondering how to make short stories. What advice would you give to beginner writers? And last, what are tips on how to make books longer because whenever I try to, it ends up being like 10 pages. Thank you so much. Oh by the way I just finished Spy School Revolution, great book!!

Stuart Gibbs I don't think you should be trying to write a story of any specific length; you should just be trying to write the best story possible. If you are trying to write a novel and it ends up being ten pages... then your idea was probably supposed to be a short story. Forcing something to be longer is called 'padding' and it doesn't make your story better at all. Just longer.

I have a whole page of writing advice at www.stuartgibbs.com.
