Goodreads asked Vivian Probst:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Vivian Probst Write in complete fascination without any judgment and DO NOT ask others to evaluate what you write until you have a finished piece--no matter how long it takes. I know that writing groups are popular but honestly, I don't belong to one because I have to let the story put itself together completely without other people expressing any opinion.

Try Julie Cameron's 'The Artist's Way' which has you write Morning Pages for 1/2 hour each a.m. That helped me get started.

Write! Keep you day job as long as you need to but be bold enough to respect yourself and your desire. I believe stories seek willing and open minds to come into being. Have fun and don't take anything too seriously. You DO NOT have to be depressed to write a good story.
