Goodreads lists Norwegians by Night as both Sigrid Odegard #1 and Sheldon H #2...? do they have it wrong? . Sigrid didn't enter the plot until about halfway through. The book seems to be about Sheldon....so I was looking for Sheldon Horowitz #1......I see by questions below that probably not? The ending was perfect BTW

Hi. Thanks for asking. I don't so much think of all this as a crime series. Rather, they are stories about people in extraordinary circumstances. So it would go like this:
1. How to Find Your Way in the Dark: Sheldon's story from 1937-1947 (Sheldon #1)
2a. Norwegian by Night: Sheldon's story when he's 82 years old (Sheldon #2)
2b. Which also introduces Sigrid, the Norwegian cop (ergo Sigrid #1)
3. American by Day, which continues Sigrid's story leaving Sheldon behind, which is why I dedicated the book to him (ergo Sigrid #2, and perhaps Irv #1? I love Irv).
People meet and their lives spin off in different directions, most unexpectedly. I love this. Maybe the series continues because life itself goes on?

Derek B. Miller:
Dear Derek, congratulations on Norwegian by Night, I just finished it and though it was a brilliant debut novel. In my review I described what I thought was a 'Catch-22' like scene with Donny and Mario talking about shooting Koreans. Were you influenced at all by that great novel? My second question, is your wife Norwegian? You seemed to have some very perceptive insights into Norwegian culture.

Mr. Miller, How in American by Day did you come to bring Saranac Lake and Siqourmey Weaver into the story? I have visited Siqourney's camp on Long Lake and met her in NYC several years ago. My secretaries husband was her caretaker. I currently live in Plattsburgh but have spent endless hours in the area that you mention in the story. I am assuming that you have vacationed in the area. Just curious, Jack Mulholland
