I think people are getting the movie and the book confused. In the book, Red's full name is never given, and his wife is mentioned in the beginning like Leslie says but the wife's isn't named.

in the beginning, it explains his wife (Red), and what happened to her, but I can't recall if it states Red's full name or not.
