Depends what you mean by "romance." If you mean Romance novel, no, it isn't. It doesn't fit the form for that. If you mean does it contain a love story, yes, that's an integral and important part of the story.
Carina
yes, with a strong story line

romance isn't the main theme of this book. There many sweet and a couple of spicy moments between the 2 characters but it's more about their growth as people and warriors.
Desirae Murray
Yes, but within the Greco-Roman society, homosexuality was a normal occurrence. When Madeline Miller composed this novel, she gave reader's a more realistic retelling of a timeless epic. The Iliad is the golden age of heroes, it was a patrifocal world were women are deemed less. Marriage was considered a transfer of power not love, even Odysseus's love and marriage to Penelope it's considered a joke. After Patroclus's father married his mother he stated: " If she was ugly, there were always slave girls and serving boys." Achilles' passionate desire for Patroclus is deemed acceptable because their society emulates male authority. Although Patroclus is not a professional warrior, his lover will help him despite Thetis's requests. Romance is more than what is shown on media it depends upon how it's interpreted within the world.
