Shania C asked Patrick W. Carr:

Hi Mr. Carr I just started reading "A Cast of Stones", and in the very first chapter there is a phrase that I have never seen or heard before. I've looked it up and have tried to break it down, but I can't seem to make sense of it. "Twisting, he spotted Liam, all eight perfect spans of him..." I have never heard someone described like that, so I am curious as to what a "perfect span" of a person is. Thank you! ?

Patrick W. Carr Shania,

A span is simply a measure of distance. The perfect span of Liam is more a description of how everything about Liam is perfect, much to the annoyance of Errol.

I've met people like Liam. I can empathize a little with Errol. :-)
