You would definitely want to read the other books! While it is a retelling from Cas’ POV there are also present day chapters in the beginning, end and sprinkled throughout the middle. Those present day chapters would spoil things for you that happen in the other books and make you pretty confused. This book picks up right after something huge happens in book 4 too and you won’t know what it is or how it happened without reading in order.
