Cate C. Wells:
Hi Cate! I recently just finished reading Return to Monte Carlo. It was well written, and while I wasn't taken with the star couple as I have in your other works, I enjoyed it nonetheless. I would like to know, however, why did you decide to include a CNC kink? It was my first time coming across this, so it was a bit difficult to read. I merely ask this out of curiousity, so you dont have to answer if you dont want to

(view spoiler)[Great question. Return to Monte Carlo is very much an homage to early category romance. In these stories, there is often forced seduction, dubcon, noncon, and so-called “body betrayal syndrome” (BBS). In BBS, the FMC does not want to be physical with the MMC, but her body betrays her into wanting him. (Forgive me if I’m explaining terms you already know.)
So during drafting, my reptilian writer brain really grappled with the question of what that looks like from a more modern perspective. The answer it came up with: CNC. The dynamic is there, but only in the bedroom (or terrace or kitchen), not in the romantic relationship. Diane is very much topping from bottom, and Marco is the character with BBS when he tries to refrain, but cannot.
I knew going into RTMC that it wouldn’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but playing around with these older tropes was a heck of a lot of fun. Thanks for reading!
