(view spoiler)[Hi Robin, MMU is my fave series! I was talking about ASOM at book club, and somebody Chinese said they’d heard of crawling towards a coffin but not up the steps-they wondered if this was because Ah Yeh had already been buried, or because Hazel’s family were more Westernised so did it differently? Also, when June said she didn’t want Hazel to have to marry a man she hated. was this a clue as to why she married? (hide spoiler)]

Thank you so much!
So that ASOM detail was taken from the memoir of a woman who grew up in Hong Kong in the 1930s and 40s. Her father died when she was out of the country, and when she and her sister were brought back from England they were told to do this. I'd guess it was because they missed the burial, as you say?
And yes, definitely - I really feel for June, who's someone who just did not have opportunities to make the choices that would have made her happier.

Hi, I love every MMU book and I have to say (although I am not trying to be rude) I have discovered a mistake I think you should know about. During Arsenic for tea Stephen says that he and Bertie were in the same dorm at Eton. Well, they have never had dorms at Eton they have always had individual rooms. Also, why do they go to Eton but the boys go to Western? Did Harold go to Western too?
