I waited the entire book for the Banyan House backstory, but it never came & remained a gaping hole in the story. Even the family seemed vague about how this decaying old mansion, full of someone else's belongings, was somehow acquired by a woman of no apparent means. Minh's Viet Nam gold was long gone, she worked menial jobs, & though her other secrets emerged, unfortunately this one was overlooked. (less)
