I feel like it was Monkey Pants’ last heroic act and his time on earth was served. It would have been incredibly sad if Nate had rescued DoDo and left him there.

That connection between the two of them was unbelievably touching and heartbreaking. I’m sure I’m wrong but I like to think that doctor who seemed to actually care took mercy on Monkey Pants and intentionally gave him too much medication.
