What's the question you are most tired of answering, and what is the question you wish people would ask you?
Phuc Tran
Hi, Kate! I get asked the same ten(ish) questions most of the time, and that's okay. I get it. I've been talking to readers about one thing, but readers, this is the only time that they've talked to me. When that happens, there's an understandable gap in our experiences. This is my long and sneaky way of saying that I don't want to put folks' questions in the "tired of answering" category because I don't want to tamp down someone's curiosity (though I think they would find most of answers to those commonly asked questions with a youtube or google search). I do love answering bigger, cultural, or pop cultural questions as well as questions about identity, belonging, race, politics, etc. You know, the easy stuff. Thanks for YOUR question! Cheers, Phuc

I am so excited to read your book. I am from York, PA and during a similar period as you, my family hosted a Vietnamese couple, also refugees. They lived with us for several years and after still stopped by anytime they were passing through town. Do you know how or through what agency these resettlements happened? My parents have passed and I have so many questions about this time and this area's history with refugees

Hi Phuc! Fellow '80s kid, lit nerd and Star Wars enthusiast here. I went to school with a Vietnamese-American kid we called "Yo," but his name was spelled "Du." I thought for sure it was a nickname we gave him out of laziness, but after reading the chapter in which your dad tries to teach you Vietnamese, I now wonder if we were at least somewhat close? Thanks for your time and for a fantastic memoir.

Hi Phuc, this is not a question. I just wanted to say I thoroughly enjoyed your memoir. I felt a connection to your story, having been born in a Hindu family in a Buddhist kingdom and been sent catholic missionary school, and capping all that with finally coming to America as a refugee just as Trump was rising in politics! I hope you write more books. I will be the first in line to buy them..?
