Hi Anita! I am a more recent fan, just finished reading The Boston Girl and loved it. Now I am going back to read your others. I adore historical fiction. My question: I see many correlations or maybe coincidences in The Boston Girl's Addie Baum and your life. (ex:Addie becomes a columnist, writes on child labor). Do you often incorporate your life and hopes into your characters?

I suppose I do incorporate parts of my life, but not always intentionally. In this case, I am more aware of the many differences between my experiences as a writer and columnist and hers. I started my newspaper career answering the phone, but my editor (male) encouraged me to write, worked with me on my writing and was almost as glad as I was to see my name in print.

I read The Red Tent this summer and fell in love with it. I recently started doing some bible studies, and every time I start I think of your book. Every time I think of it, a pang of deep emotion runs through my heart. I have a big family too, and to imagine loosing them the way Dinah did is heart breaking. This is absolutely my favorite book. Thank you!! How did you decide to start writing about Dinah?
