I already wrote it! My YA paranormal novel THE HAUNTED PURSE was inspired by a true incident. My car keys disappeared from my purse and later turned up in a spot I'd checked several times. My conclusion: I'd been pranked by an otherworldly spirit. I liked that explanation better than the alternative: I was an idiot who hadn't seen what was right there in front of me!
