Bonnie Garmus:
As a scientist myself, I wonder do you know that many leading scientists and religious luminaries of our generation hold a view that there is no contradiction between science and religion? Modern discoveries in astronomy, quantum physics help us to understand the process of creation. Creator created this world from nothing thousands of years ago, and that process of creation goes on continuously every moment.

Great question, Galina! Yes, I am aware that some scientists and religious leaders see a peaceful coexistence between religion and science, and that's absolutely fine. But this book is presenting the other viewpoint--that science is about evidence and hypotheses and proven discovery rather than dependence/reliance on a higher being. I think Elizabeth Zott's thinking is more along the lines of Richard Dawkins, the evolutionary biologist, who's written about this topic extensively. The debate goes on!

No questions...just raves! I too was in the advertising business starting in the early 70's. I can relate to so much of what you wrote about in "Lessons"! My memories of the book include many laugh-out-loud moments & my husband's repeatedly asking "what ARE you laughing about?" Thank you for bringing such joy to our otherwise difficult world. Hopefully six-thirty or perhaps ninety-nine will resurface again!

Ms. Garmus, I just wanted to say thank you for writing Lessons in Chemistry. It is exactly what I needed as a junior at Butler University in Indy, IN, USA studying Biochemistry with a Neuroscience minor. I was truly inspired by your words, through EZ especially. As a young female in the chemistry field, I have never related to a book more in my life. Thank you. What is the most rewarding part of your chemistry career?
