Did I miss the explanation about the characters who resemble each other? The author seems to hint that Theo and Turtle bear a family resemblance to Sam Weston. Also Grace Wexler, her daughter Angela and the young Mrs Weston. There is also a clue, or maybe a red herring, about twins?
