Goodreads asked Amy L. Griffin:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Amy L. Griffin First, ask yourself why and for whom you are writing. Are you writing a memoir for your family or writing something you want published? Either way, is it a topic that you are exited about or will it be a chore? I suggest buying 4-5 small journals/notebooks, each with a different theme. In one, write down all your ideas, jumbled as you like. If you want to put your book for sale, you need a strong business plan. Who is your audience, what sets your book apart from others in your genre, will you be self-published or seek out a publisher, etc. There are a lot of free resources for aspiring writers. Join Facebook group discussions for ideas, advice and contacts. Be open to constructive criticism, even though it may be painful and have a cheer squad on the either side. Above all, be patient with yourself, don't rush. As the wise one said: They stumble that run fast.” William Shakespeare: Romeo and Juliet
