A Goodreads user asked:

does anyone else find it suspicious/weird how obsessed Jeremy was with lowen from the very start? He said later on that it was him who loved her book and wanted her to come work in their home. When they first met and he must have know who she was and when they talked in the elevator and pretended to Google her ? Also when Lowen said no to the job he literally “paid” her half a million to come work at his house?

London Howell Yeah, I’m always imagining roads the book could potentially take as I read…even if I know they’re unlikely…and I was thinking, ok what if he’s the villain, what if Lowen ends up being another victim somehow, what if he even engineered that first guy being pushed under the vehicle so they can meet??? That would have been nuts. But alas, none of that explored. To your point, yes, all of that opens the door for him to be a super suspicious or at least more problematic character - and then later we learn he knew about the manuscript?? So even more so - but it’s a door we never really explore. Many people have a problem with this, as you’ll see if you read reviews.
JD I first thought he was maybe he one who pushed the man in front of the truck, so he has an excuse to get to know lowen in her most vulnerable moment
