Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Alan Thompson Over the past decade, a scandal has unfolded in my adopted state of North Carolina involving state-enforced sterilization from the 1930s to the 1970s. What went unsaid in the papers, or was barely mentioned, was that this manifestation of eugenics was practiced all over the country, even the world. Despite a lot of education, I'd heard nothing about it, and I started to wonder why. I did a lot of research and reached a conclusion that is embodied in one of the story lines in my new novel, Gods and Lesser Men.
