Jeffrey asked Glynnis Campbell:

YOU AND I BOTH ENJOY READING. I READ AWHILE AGO THAT ONLY 20% OF THE POPULATION READ(FOR PLESURE) ON A REGULAR BASIS. ANY THOUGHTS ABOUT WHAT WE, AS A SOCIETY CAN DO TO MAKE READING MORE PLEASURABLE FOR STUDENTS TO READ(THIS WAY THEY BECOME LIFELONG READERS)?

Glynnis Campbell I think the 20% figure is true for book readers, but I suspect people have just turned to other forms of reading--scrolling Facebook and Twitter and reading blogs and online articles. The world is speeding up, so attention span has decreased. Some authors therefore write in shorter-quicker formats or release books in serial form. But how do we get people to read full-size books? The only answer I can think of is making the reading experience more enjoyable by providing atmosphere--public spaces like reading cafes or parks with hammocks or plush libraries--where reading books becomes associated with relaxation, comfort, and pleasure.
