Truthfully, the best thing about writing is writing. When I write something good, and then go back and winnow out the really good parts, and a year later, after tossing a lot of mediocre stuff I find something I still think is good, I'm genuinely happy. But I'm an INTP, so I'm looking for something different from the process than most people.
