Sarah It seems he looked at Polly and knew. Perhaps it was because he had done his research and knew what the rest of the family looked like, and could see the strong resemblance to that side, without much resemblance to Nora.

Renata Sicolino From what I understood, Polly (Thea) looked exactly like her mother. That's how Daniel figured it out and how Percy knew it instantly when he looked at her. She also mentions her skin tone being so different from Nora's. I think he put 2 and 2 together.
