At The Gate is actually inspired by my own life, and a time I stayed at a strange hotel years ago.
I also grew up in a big old creaky house which I definitely could spin some tales out of. I remember being home alone as a teenagers and hearing the very distinct sound of a cat meowing, but only ever in the hallway between rooms. Creeped me out for ages!
